B School Admission Procedure

Every student wants to get admission into the most prestigious universities. Today’s youth is very much attracted with what MBA brings with it. The high pay packages, a brilliant career graph and a satisfying career are all very inviting and attractive prospects that students simply cannot resists. MBA is the most sought after course after graduation.

However, as with every degree, MBA too has its own set of rules and admission criteria. Many recognized institutes enroll students who have passed their entrance exam according to their cut off marks. The universities come up with a specific standard so that they can get the best students and help them achieve the best education and get a good position in the market to become a good manager or to start their own business. Candidates should be clear in their goal, as MBA is the way to reach the goal and not the goal itself.

The Admission process

Many candidates can find the admission process long and time consuming. It comes with various aspects to it. In India it is the CAT that is the Common Admission test that is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management as the entrance exam for enrolling students in their universities. There are other B-schools that conduct their own entrance exam, but follow the GMAT structures. The admission tests are a primary requirement of many top B-schools. They comprise of written test that may also include essay writing apart from the 3 hours computer test, references and interviews.

Eligibility Criteria

For most of the B-schools in India, the eligibility criterion is the same. The aspirant should hold a graduation certificate and score at least 50% or equivalent CGPA. For the reserved category, the scores required are 45%. If the candidate has obtained grades instead of marks, the conversion of grades into percentage will be according to the rules of the particular university that has awarded them grades. Candidates who are in their final year of graduation can also apply. For those in the defense category or from the Jammu and Kashmir regions and foreign students should look out for details of eligibility for MBA course as they can differ from the general category.

MBA Entrance Exams

There are thousands of B-schools in India and in various disciplines. However, the top 50 MBA Colleges are the most preferred ones in the country. Various common national entrance tests are conducted like the CAT, CMAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, JMET, MH-CET, NMAT, IRMA, IBSAT, MICA and IIFT.

Stage one comprises of a written test that takes 2 ½ hours duration and students have to answer objective type questions. Students have to be well versed with topics like quantitative ability, data interpretation, reading comprehension, verbal ability, reasoning logical/analytical and data sufficiency.

Stage two includes group discussions and interview. Here the candidates are asked to take part in discussion with other students on various subjects and put forth their opinion. The judges will check the candidates behavior, communication skills, assertiveness, reasoning ability, confidence, leadership, creativity and awareness.

Stage three includes the personal interview. The interviewer will be interested in knowing the goals of the candidates, his ability and skills. Some colleges also tweak in essay writing so that they can know what the candidate thinks of a particular topic. There might also be general awareness and business related questions as well.

Last but not the least; work experience is also given ample weightage in many institutions. It does play a crucial role in the admission process and also during placements of students who have completed their MBA 2 year course.
