This year, most of the prestigious Indian management institutes are expecting a hike in stipends by almost 20% during summer placements. The most interesting thing is this expectation is despite the fact that economies are still reeling under uncertain economic crisis. It is from the firs end of November that summer placement for institutes will start
Since most of the leading companies of the world are reflecting their desire to hire summer interns, despite of this economic scenario, IIM students are hoping to draw increased stipends in coming year. Nitin KV, recruitment coordinator with IIM Lucknow, said, “Besides long time recruiters, there are a lot of first timers as well. We expect that the stipends, particularly in consulting, marketing and general management sectors, will increase by 15-20 per cent this year.”
IIM Ahmedabad is quite confident about having a vibrant summer placement this season. While students are looking forward for a lucrative summer placement, they have attractive final placement offers in hand as well, said a member of student placement committee. The most interesting things is students are showing their preference for domestic companies over international ones, and this will affect the hike in their stipends, anticipates the students.
Other B-schools like XLRI is expecting a single digit percentage hike in summer placement stipends this year. Placement coordinator at XLRI today said, “Companies are a bit reserved in terms of hiring and we are not aiming at the stars this year. We do not see companies in finance sector making many offers.”
